Neighborhood Profile: Rajpur
In our neighborhood profile series, we take you inside the most popular places to live in Dehradun and give you all the information you need to make the right decision about where to live in the city. If you are a foreigner looking for a place to live in Dehradun, you’ve come to the right place!
Rajpur is one of the most popular neighborhoods amongst foreigners, and its easy to see why with some of the city’s best views and restaurants tucked away in perhaps the quietest corner of the city! Here’s what you need to know about living in Rajpur:
Housing
As one of the older areas of the city, Rajpur misses out on the trendy apartments going up in the rest of the city. Instead, you’ll find houses and flats for rent with unbelievable views of the Himalayas.
Food options
Rajpur offers various small shops for everyday necessities like vegetables, eggs, and milk but foreigners looking for a more traditional grocery store will need to travel to the Jakhan area roughly 10 minutes down the road.
Rajpur’s restaurant scene is one of the best in the city featuring top restaurants like Chaaya, Orchard, and MudCup serving foreign and local favorites.
Wellness
Small gyms are available in Rajpur, but the area truly stands out for its outdoor exercise options including the most sought out hiking and biking trail area in the city. A small park is also available for families with children.
Entertainment
Beyond restaurants, Rajpur is situated only 10 minutes from Dehradun’s most popular shopping mall and cinema, Pacific Mall Dehradun.
Transportation & traffic
Rajpur’s somewhat out of the way location gives it the benefit of light traffic, but also limits public transportation in the area. Both buses and Vikrams stop at the intersection of Old Mussoorie Road and Rajpur Road, so residents need to provide their own transportation or plan to walk up the steep road that defines the neighborhood.
Noise
Easily one of the quietest neighborhoods in the city- if you need an escape from the noise and frenetic pace of the streets of India, you’ll love Rajpur.
