In our neighborhood profile series, we take you inside the most popular places to live in Dehradun and give you all the information you need to make the right decision about where to live in the city. If you are a foreigner looking for a place to live in Dehradun, you’ve come to the right place!

Jakhan is quickly emerging as one of Dehradun’s most dynamic neighborhoods with new stores and restaurants popping up everyday. Here’s what you need to know about living in Jakhan:

Housing

Jakhan boasts various housing options including apartments and houses. Rent can run a bit higher in the neighborhood as it has become one of the hottest real estate markets in the city.

Food options

Whether you prefer to eat out or in, Jakhan has you covered with a healthy dose of both quantity and quality.

You’ll find several of Dehradun’s best grocery options in Jakhan including Turtle, Alpha, and Easyday. When you are in the mood to go out, the possibilities are near endless whether you are looking for a more formal experience (Punjab Grill, GRILLE Restaurant), casual (Bowwow, Swings Cafe), or street fare (Nazim’s Kathi Roll, KC Soup Bar).

Wellness

Jakhan is one of the centers for wellness in Dehradun with some of the top gyms (Destiny, Ultimate Fitness, Muscle Town), yoga studios (YOGAM), and spas (Aroma Thai) in the city.

Entertainment

Dehradun’s most popular shopping mall, Pacific Mall, anchors Jakhan’s entertainment offerings including shopping from top foreign & domestic brands, a 6 screen cinema, and fast food options.

Transportation & traffic

As a newly minted hub within the city, you’ll find every form of transportation in Jakhan including bus, vikram, private auto, and taxi. Traffic is constant but rarely overwhelming outside of Sunday nights when traffic often comes to a standstill, especially in front of Pacific Mall.

Noise

Noise can be an issue in Jakhan as Rajpur Road, one of Dehradun’s main traffic arteries, anchors the neighborhood. However, quiet neighborhoods can be found tucked in behind some of the larger buildings in the area. If noise is a priority for you and your family, I recommend a visiting a property at several different times during the day to see and hear for yourself.
